Kwaku Darko Gyimah
I am a Ghanaian visual artist who uses art, nature and emotions to tell pictorial stories. My stories divulge love, authenticity, diversity, and intimacy through my body of work. As an entrepreneur, I am the founder of Jema Studios, an internationally recognised media company operating mainstream in Ghana and the United States of America, providing creative visual solutions to individuals and businesses at large.
I believe art is the new crypto, and now more than ever, creatives must take advantage of the opportunity to change narratives, own their stories, impact lives and inspire many through their art. I began on this journey at the early age of 6, drawing sophisticated robots to fancy buildings and playing with colours. By age 21, what is known to me as a hobby had become a sought-after skill harnessed through hard work, constant learning and passion, thereby setting my photographs apart.
Jemaphotosis
the word "jemaphotosis", is an invented word. [ jema - photo - sis ]
Jema simply means something good, Photo means light, and Sis implies a step-by-step process or, simply put system.
A step-by-step process of using light to create something as good as a photograph.
I have incessantly seen my art as a gift to Ghana and the global space. This belief has opened opportunities for me to travel widely and share my talent with the world. Despite the absence of blueprints, opposition from family and little respect for the art and business of photography in my region, I have built a viable 7-figure business creating jobs for the youth and also embarked on projects ranging from feeding the streets to organising workshops to better young creatives and build a more robust industry.
As a creative, I have had the privilege to work with brands like Ghana Revenue Authority, DVLA, IZWE Saving and Loans, Ozone and Blue Cloud Network, Goldfields Ltd, ENI Oil and Gas, Robert Bosch, Aide Chemist, and Kreek Africa, among others. I have had my works featured in many magazines, articles, and blog posts such as Dream Magazine, BBC Africa, CNN Insider, Shaderoom, Brides, Bellanaija, and many more. As a wedding photographer, I have also had the privilege of documenting some of the biggest weddings in Ghana and many celebrities like Joe Mettle, Sika Osei, Medikal, and Sima Brew.
My goal is to inspire voices to tell stories that capture busy minds compelling them to think and act with even more love and compassion. Finally, empower young creatives to change narratives and build thriving businesses. Eventually, I look forward to exploring more options in the creative art space.
